Long live Sherlock Holmes

Not that any cares, but we here at ADR are big Sherlock Holmes fans. So it is with sweet anticipation that we wait for the new Holmes film to hit the screens as Robert Downey Jr plays the more rough and disruptive Holmes then ever portrayed on the big screen before. 

Now if you know anything about the man behind the man, Sir Athur Conan Doyle, then you would know that this guy always painted himself as a badass. A real ladies man, and overall genius dealing with the cutting edge of science, physics, human anatomy, and human phycology, it was not enough for this dude to be the founding father of forensic science. I mean, this guys started all these damn shows like CSI, and NCIS. But then he decides to start writing about it, and when stories about himself didn't find an audience, he made the more reclusive character of Sherlock Holmes.  In fact, the both characters of Holmes and Watson were both parts of Doyle himself that he thought up. But Holmes was more the man he wanted to be, while Watson was more the man he really was. 

From what we have seen in trailers and what we could find on the internet, it looks like director, Guy Ritchie, has brought out more of the roughness that other films in the past tent to over look about Holmes. And it seems that Watson is more daring then in the past as well. I know that the character of Irene Adler is also in the film, so I'm not sure where the plot will have is store for us.  But I really can't wait to see it. 

Now if you are a Holmes fan like us, then I now you are stoked as much as we are to see this film. Holmes is a timeless character that a lot of these tv show detectives bit off of all the time. So I recommend you go and see the original. ADR continues!! 

 

You can't kill the Rooster

Every now and then, I like to read books for fun, I mean who does that. For fun anyway. Really, I don't know where literature has gone to. I do know when a book gets a lot of publicity it always seems after the fact that it has become a film. Some people have to be avid readers or forget about it, the art of literature is dead. Because, if your anything like me, reading a book every once and a blue moon, I just don't see it happening. 

So when I find a great writer, I love telling others about the amazing little discoveries that I find in there writing. Now, David Sedaris has been around for a while, and if you have had the pleasure of picking up one of his books, then you know what I'm talking about.

I love his work because of the real world voice that he bounces in all of our heads. Things we want to say, things that did say, and things we wish we never said. It seems like every time I read one of his stories, I am always left stunned, thinking where does he get this stuff. Or how much I have thought the same way. 

One of my favorite stories is from his book, Me Talk Pretty One Day, in a story called You can't kill the Rooster. If you have ever had a younger sibling that was not subject to the same parenting that you had when you were that age, then you would totally relate to this story. It seems like they could do no wrong, and got a way with cussing in front of your parents, especially when you weren't allowed to.  

The guy is off beat, and way out there in his thoughts, but he really is a great writer, and if you so happen to pick up a book for the fun of it, I recommend that it be one of his. ADR out!!

How come your not creative writing

Now I know a lot of you dudes and dudetts out there in America love writing. And there are some that wish they could, but don't really know how to go about doing it. Some may think you have to be this intellectual type to write something of worth. I am here to tell you, this is not true. If there is one thing that our beautiful country proclaims is your freedom of speech noted in our dear constitution. We are all at liberty to speak our minds, doesn't always mean others will listen, but creative writing isn't just about having your words published for a generic audience that may not understand what you want to say to the world.

To understand what you may or may not know about creative writing, we have to drop some knowledge on you. It is anything that is self-expression. Meaning, if you are composing anything outside the realm of professional, journalistic, or academic, then you maybe a creative writer.

I love it, in fact, I encourage all you out there in ADR land to get the ball rolling, and start writing yourself. Who knows, you may be the next creative writer for Family Guy, everyone knows that show needs someone on there to be funny.

Why I want to cheat death

I don't know about you, but every now and then I come across a story that reminds me just how old I am and the concept of facing aging. Along with this idea, comes my fantasy of staying young forever. Which always leads to me coming up with ideas of becoming a vampire, or even a making a time machine to beat the hell out of time. But one thing I would never want to be is a werewolf, cause all that hair just isn't in right now. Maybe back in the eighties, I'll just have to wait til comes back in to fashion. No shit, teen-wolf got me thinking about it. Now I know this isn't what the good Dr. Gupta is talking about, but that shit would be cool. Some thing I found interesting in his story is that people are out there cheating death, and how medical science is trying to come up with answers on how you can too. These outstanding explanations of how some day you could be having a heart-attack, and live to fight off, and return to your life just as normal as the day before you attack. Just remember to have lots of ice around, maybe stuff it in your pocket just in case you decide to have one. Check it out, or not... Party on, ADRers. Download Story[1]
