The sport of football is not as old as some the other major sports here in America, such as baseball or hockey. Yet in its short existence it has raised to the top of all professional sports here in America. I truly believe that it has replaced baseball as America’s game of choice. The hierarchy of baseball has allowed its sport to be ruined by greed and agents. A system where the rich get richer and the lower market teams suffer because they can’t compete because of lower market revenues. Which is why teams like, the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Red Sox, Angels are always in the pennant race, and they can afford to be. While teams like the Royals, Pirates, Mariners groom up talent through their farm systems and when they have a bona fide superstar it becomes hard to keep that player because the big market teams price out the small market team. But because of forward thinking and innovation the N.F.L. has vaulted its way into the televisions of millions of Americans. It has a placed it value in the quality of the game rather than the revenue in their pockets. Because of their salary cap and the revenue sharing throughout the league teams no matter in what market have the same amount of money to spend. The product on the field is a lot better and no matter what game is on the action is still the same. There is a reason the Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year and cities fight over the right to get to host the game. It is why advertisers pay big sums of money to show commercials during the game. My own city will get the chance to host one of these big time events here in the next coming year. The 2011 Super Bowl will be held in Arlington, Texas in the new Cowboys Stadium. Fans are a real barometer of how well a sport is thriving. Football fans will show up in full body paint wearing no shirt in freezing cold weather, while other teams have fans that will their season tickets to their children because season ticket waiting list are so long. I guess I am spoiled as a Dallas Cowboys fan because of their success but I think if you’re a fan of any N.F.L. team there is always hope to turn around a franchise. Look at the recent success of such teams as New Orleans Saints and last year the Arizona Cardinals. No team is ever completely out of hope at a chance of Super Bowl glory. Two years ago the New York Giants were overwhelming underdogs to the, then three time Super Bowl Champion and undefeated, New England Patriots. With all odds against them they did the unthinkable and won it all. So if you’re a Detroit Lions fans or a Cleveland Browns fan keep the faith and remember that there is always next year. Go Cowboys, ADR out!
